Maybe I’ve been spending too much time looking for used cars, but while trying to find suitable competitors in today’s Used Car Face-Off, I stumbled across this little Japanese immigrant into the United States...

Yes, it’s a Nissan Pao! It !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! However, $6K is a lot for a little, retro Nissan March/Micra with a carbureted 1.0L I4 (the ad is slightly wrong) producing in the vicinity of 51 hp. Add that to the 3 speed auto and progress is going to be very slow indeed. Is worth the snail pace for the prospect of owning what is a very unique car that will likely become a collectors’ curiosity in the future?

These things are so neat! I got to see one when I went to Lane Motor Museum in Nashville a few years ago when they had the Pike collection on loan from Nissan.

Nice! I find it funny and interesting how Nissan rebodied a few of its cars in the ‘90s with some old-fashioned metal and suddenly they’re collectible. Chrysler, on the other hand...

Kinja'd!!!

Let’s just say that Nissan was probably smart to limit production.

At least Nissan completely rebodied them. What Chrysler did was just... er... umm...

I'd love an S-Cargo, too. So odd looking.

It isn’t really my thing, but considering the condition and uniqueness I voted NP.

Not that rare. There’s one that parks down the street from me.

My girlfriend wants one of these pretty badly, it’s hard to find them cheap unfortunately. Or, fortunately, because it’s probably a death trap

In my area, there’s a huge auto auction that’s held twice a year. There are three main parts to the building: the main floor, where the block is and the best cars are stored, as well as a lot of people. There’s the side garage, where cars coming up for auction wait. But the best part is the back garage and lot, where most of the low dollar cars and cars that have already been sold are kept. Since these cars are the most lowest value and have already been sold, most of the people are in the other building. Since it’s an auction, all of the vehicles are unlocked for inspection even though they’ve already been sold. So, I walk into this building, and there are about 50 unlocked cars sitting there that one gives a shit about for me to oggle over. Anyway, to get to the point, in this huge warehouse of cars at the last auction, between all of the Mustangs, Bugs, and ‘90s Mercedes SLs, there were too JDM cars: A Subaru Sambar Firetruck and a Nissan S -Cargo. Sitting there unlocked for me to take all of the pictures I wanted. The S-Cargo, which is a pike factory like this one, never really wowed me. But sitting in one changed that. The cabin was surprisingly spacious for such a small car, the dash was well layed out, there was plenty of cargo space, and the motor fit into a tiny space relative even to the small size of the car. In short, the car was brilliantly engineered, far more so than you’d expect from a limited run nostalgia model. So, the TL;DR of this story is that I wouldn’t kick any Pike Factory cars out of my garage, even though I’ve never driven them and know little about them, based on an auction gut feeling that I got by breaking a minor rule and which I’ve made sound like a huge change in my life. So, nice price.

Idk if you familiar with Toms turbo Garage on YouTube but he just imported a Figaro that he's planing on restoring. Neat little cars. I've always preferred the Poa thought, it just looks so right. Like it could have actually existed in the 1960s. They especially nailed the interior.

Awesome story! I love hearing a tale like that, it reminds us that there are hidden corners of the automotive world which are just waiting to be discovered and experienced. On a side note, I know you were particularly amazed by the S-Cargo’s packaging but I think you remarks are applicable to just about any Kei car since the ‘90s as they are all space-saving marvels.

Well you won’t really be going fast enough to die anyways, and they’re rare enough that I think you’d develop some sense of self preservation. Perhaps interest her in a Mini instead? Same retro appeal, but with more German engineering and safety.

Depends, are you stateside? Besides, 50K cars which are likely being rapidly consumed by rust and were never sold here are going to be rare no matter what in America.

Yeah, I wouldn’t DD it either, and I personally can’t think of any other way to use it other than an elaborate marketing device for Paris Baugette or any number of those Eurasian pastry shops which are now dime-a-dozen in the Bay Area.

I mean if you’re willing to settle for a less nice example you can get them from Goo-net for around $2200 USD +$1000 for shipping. Not sure if it’s worth it though.

Hmmmm...I think that’s a debate for archaeologists of the 24th century to figure out. The PT Cruiser is a bit beyond our current understanding at this moment.

I’m a BE-1 man myself if we’re talking about Pike cars. Less retro, but a bit more functional.

Yeah, that’s probably true, but as a North Carolinian, we don’t have a lot of K Cars, and the S Cargo was the first one I really got to see up close.
